Twisted Fairytales
This term we are writing twisted fairytales. What we have to do is get one (or more) fairytales and twist them to make them different than the original fairytale. After we have drafted it and edited it we have to draw a picture of one, or more, of the characters. These are going well and are really fun.

Term 4 Activities
Swimming
This term we have been doing swimming. We go to Alpine Aqualand and get swimming lessons there. In swimming we have been using life jackets and doing survival strokes. We learnt the survival backstroke and sidestroke. We also had to get in to groups and jump in to the lane pool to practise doing huddles. The smallest, weakest or most tired person is supposed to go in to the middle, so they can be supported more. A huddle helps to keep warm and support people a bit more. You are supposed to hold around other people's waist. If you hold on to their shoulders you might accidentally push them under the water. As well as learning about how to survive in water, we are also in different swimming groups.

Term 4 in Rm16
Hey, Room 16 here!
We've just started another term and for the year 8's this year it'll be their last term at Arrowtown School.
This term for sport we are continuing to prepare for athletics day. We train on Tuesdays so don't forget your gear! Some of the sports include high jump, long jump, sprints, hurdles, distance and so forth. We are also about to start school swimming in our class. We begin on November 22nd (week 7).
We also send off the Year 8's to their camp this term! They have been fundraising and looking forward to their trip to Doubtful Sound. Some of the new things they may get to enjoy on camp include crayfishing and helicopter rides. They leave on December 6th and return on the 10th.
We have just started a new thing called Words Alive. What we do is write a short piece of creative writing that is as descriptive as we can make it. The aim is to make it so that the reader can clearly see what your describing - painting a picture.
Every year the senior school start a new money system in term 4 called Rewards Day. When we do things that would usually earn us credits through the year we now earn Arrowtown School paper money. We save it up through the term and at the end of the year we can exchange it to do a fun activity. Some activities like bungy jumping or jet boat rides cost more than other things like movies with friends or going swimming.
Thats just the start of everything this term.
Bye for now! Josie & Danielle

Finding Percentages
In class at the moment our Maths W.A.L.T is Find percentages of given numbers
Benna and Marcel's way:
Benna and Marcel's way:
Divide the number by ten and then work out the percentage
For Example: 15% of 92- 92 divided by 10 = 9.2,
- 50% of 9.2 =4.6
- 9.2 + 4.6= 13.8
